Every year, when there is a new release of the latest season of PR, I would try to dip my toes back into the series to get in touch with my roots. This year is no different. While I still have mixed feelings about PR changing hands of parent companies every time, I hope that each season brings something positive and memorable to the series. After watching Beast Morphers episode 1, I thought that the plot borrowed elements from RPM (computer viruses vs a government agency), In Space (frozen rangers), and Ninja Storm & SPD (3 v 2 dynamic), some of my favourite series, which worries me that the producers might be setting up really high expectations for old-time fans. I hope that the writers put a different spin on those plots and keep it fresh for the younger fans without dumbing down complex life issues. The characters and plot are simply awesome. The story begins in a utopian-like future, in the year 3000, where all criminals have been captured, except for one - Ransik. Alex, the Time Force red ranger, finally manages to capture Ransik, but one mistake changes history, literally. Assisted by his daughter and accomplices, Ransik breaks free while being transported to jail by Jen, Lucas, Katie and Trip. In a final showdown with Ransik, Alex is struck down, Ransik and his gang escape to the year 2001 and Jen (Alex's fiance) makes a promise to Alex to capture Ransik. Together with her team, Jen, Lucas, Katie and Trip chase after Ransik into the past, where they are outnumbered by the robot army. Soon, they cross paths with Wes, a good fighter who offers them...

2 things I want to talk about today: Transformers Prime and other opening credits A Korean drama VS Power Rangers? I've noticed that the cartoon openings I like usually have Jeff Kline, Richard Raynis and Duane Capizzi in the credits somehow. I've been seeing their names at the end of a number of my favourite cartoons since childhood (e.g. Jackie Chan Adventures, Extreme Ghostbusters, Men In Black: The Animated Series, Roughnecks: The Starship Troopers Chronicles, Godzilla: The Series and more recently G.I. Joe: Renegades and Transformers: Prime). So I just wanna take my hats off to these hardworking people and thank them for giving me awesome childhood memories. Power Rangers is a series I have grown up with since it first aired on TV. While I may not be as obsessed about it as I was back in the old days, I still love it for it's simplistic good VS evil concept & all the important values taught through each episode that have nurtured my character. Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers (Seasons 1 - 3) Looking back, I feel kinda stupid for being fooled by the stereotypical characters and poor quality special effects, but hey, I was just a kid. I actually cried when their zords were permanently destroyed (Kimberly was distraught) and cheered for them during zord battles. The series started off great with some major changes - no ending theme to channel more time to story development; no 5-word-titles to allow for more creative titles. However, I did notice that the plots seemed to borrow ideas from other seasons: Green rangers are usually portrayed as comic reliefs Sky cowboy Joel, clumsy/naive Trip, weird Bridge, overconfident slacker Xander, & now Ziggy? Wild Force Rangers had powers from the start (Good thing, 'cos it saves time on the introduction. It seems like the plots are getting old. The latest seasons are becoming more like remixes of old seasons. This time, Jungle Fury is a mix of Wild Force & Ninja Storm. The kung-fu school copied the Ninja Academy. How the villain came to be Jarrod also copied Master Org's past. Now, moving on to the characters. Jarrod played the part of a bully really well, though his actions were a little over the top. I mean, why the hell did Master Mao allow his behaviour to carry on for 10 years? Was he that lousy a master? In addition, when Master Mao supposedly "died", he didn't act like he was in pain or anything. In fact, he looked like he was just reading off a script. Lily should not be a Power Ranger since talking/complaining is all she does and her fighting skills are awful. Lily's complaint about her butt not getting up with her was just lame. However, I'm glad that Lily started to shine in the later episodes. I like the episode "Dance The Night Aw...

It has been a great honour to receive e-mails over the years from some of the PR cast. They are really sweet people for taking the time to reply to fan e-mails. After watching some Power Morphicon video clips on YouTube, I have gained a newfound respect for actors and actresses, especially for the cast of Power Rangers. I must say, it is not easy to make it big as an actor, so most people would just accept any gigs they are offered. People often think that actors that star in Power Rangers are just desperate for a job. Perhaps, but anyone would do the same if they had no other choice. Acting on PR involves huge sacrifices because firstly, they have to undergo a lot of training for fight scenes (which in PR, is plenty). Their work hours are long and it takes a toll on their physical strength. However, I am glad that Power Rangers is able to open up some doors for the actors to other opportunities. After watching the last few episodes of Operation Overdrive, I was left unimpressed. I could easily go on for days complaining about all the bad stuff. << Warning: Spoilers >>

I'm so glad Mystic Force is finally over. It was both a joy & pain to watch it. Firstly, only the first few and the last few episodes were good, with the exception of the Dark Wish trilogy which rocked. In addition, there was no SPD/MF team-up, which was disappointing but unavoidable due to the constraints of having a 32 episode season. It may have been a good thing, though, 'cos it dashed all chances of MF ruining the SPD season. Anyway, on to the next season, Operation Overdrive... The first few episodes seemed quite good, but from past experience, I kinda expect the season to deteriorate rapidly. And the season HAD to start off on the wrong foot by introducing a horrible opening theme, which I may be forced to get used to eventually. This season's characters have potential to shine, but I'm hoping that they will be given the opportunity to, without having to reuse Boukenger plot material.
