Why Venting Doesn’t Help You Deal with Anger | Jennifer Parlamis | TED

In this TED talk, Jennifer Parlamis shares that activities which reduce your physiological arousal can help reduce anger. These include things like meditation, deep breathing, and yoga ( 11:48 ). Conversely, physiologically arousing activities, such as verbal venting, or even running, working out, or screaming into a pillow, do not decrease anger ( 11:14 , 11:31 ).

What you do reveals your true colours

“Il ne faut pas toucher aux idoles: la dorure en reste aux mains.”  "You should never touch your idols: a little of the gold always rubs off." - Madame Bovary (1856)   It really is such a let-down when someone you respect is revealed to be not the person you imagined. It is even worse when the people around them dismiss their act as not 'egregious', when black is white and white is black. Sigh. "Don't meet your heroes", as they say.

Sensitive Issues

For once in a very long time, I thought I might as well make a serious post regarding a couple of issues: Memory loss With age comes this problem. It takes a toll on working adults like me and it is torturous to remember a gazillion usernames and passwords, the names of all the people I work with, important knowledge and facts, etc. On the bright side, people like me tend to be happier and more forgiving because we forget the anger and hurts more easily. As the saying goes, "ignorance is bliss". To the people who harbour revenge and hurts for a long time, let me remind you that it is unhealthy for your mind, especially if you are up against forgetful people, because the only one who suffers from your unforgiveness is you, not the happy person who doesn't even remember what he or she did to anger you. Bottle all that rage up over some time and you're bound to "snap", perhaps even going to extent of breaking the law. Learn to forgive and let go. Move...

Cynicism

In the anime, Working!!, Poplar tells Inami about the fine line between hate and love. When you hate someone so bad that you have an unhealthy obsession with that person, it somehow shares similar symptoms as love. Now that I think about it, there is some truth to that. I have these conflicting feelings regarding my parents too. "I hate her" was what I told myself minutes ago, but my positive-side had to bring back memories of her when she's nice. Then my cynical side tells me, "It's all a cover-up to make herself look like a good and responsible parent." My parents once used to be my heroes, but then I grew up and knew better. All I wanted was for her to be proud of me. She never was, so I gave up trying. Her bitterness probably rubbed off on me, because I did whatever I wanted, said whatever I wanted to spite her, just to test her response and hopefully get a definite answer as to whether she loves or hates me. I might have done that as a def...
