Saiki Kusuo no Psi-nan

Image
This anime is hilarious. All the character quirks are memorable and each one adds a new dimension of unpredictability to Saiki's everyday problems. Nendou is a real wild card. The dialogue runs at bulletspeed, but slightly slower than that of Tatami Galaxy. I would definitely recommend this to any anime watcher who loves comedy and characters with super powers. Each episode in season 1 lasts 5 minutes, so it's great during breaks when you need a quick laugh. In season 2, each episode is a compilation of 5-minute clips and has a regular 25-minute run-time.

30-Day Anime Challenge

Image
Day 1: Very first anime Hm... there were a few animes that I had seen in English dub and didn't realise were from Japan till I was much older. Some of them included Pokemon, Digimon, Akazukin Cha Cha, Cardcaptor Sakura. Day 2: Favourite anime so far Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, hands-down. Day 3: Favourite male anime character Colonel Roy Mustang (FMA Brotherhood) Day 4: Favourite female anime character Lieutenant Elizabeth Hawkeye (FMA Brotherhood) Day 5: Anime I'm ashamed I enjoyed Akazukin Cha Cha, Crush Gear Nitro. The shows actually look a lot more dated looking back. Day 6: Anime I wanted to see but haven't yet Kuroko no Basket, Bleach, Gintama, Hetalia, most of the Gundam series, Detective Conan. Tl;dw. Day 7: Anime crush Colonel Mustang, of course. But I ain't ever coming between Royai. Day 8: Favourite anime couple Can't get any clearer than Royai. Day 9: Best anime villain Johan (Monster) and Greed (FMA Brotherhood...

Why Anime?

People often get curious whenever the topic of anime is brought up. Questions like "What is it and why do you like it? Aren't they for kids?" are usually raised. Ever since the internet and Youtube opened the world to Pandora's box of creative ideas, people have been more widely exposed to anime and its creative possibilities. It's a similar situation where X-Men movies, Spider-Man movies and now the DCCU and MCU made the world of graphic novels more widely accepted. Anyway, back to the topic. There is such a vast variety of genres explored in anime that it is easy to find something that caters to the young and old. Western animated series tend to cater to the younger audience. Owing to the large quantity of anime being produced every season, the chances of finding a mind-blowing series among anime titles are a lot higher than among western animated series. I would think it is a similar reason for those who are into graphic novels. The creative possibilities are...

Arslan Senki

Image
Arslan Senki has quickly risen to the top of my watchlist priority in recent weeks. Hits: Overpowered characters like Daryun and Narsus (similar in personality to Kurogane & Faye from Tsubasa Chronicle) The "Hakuouki"-like ED. Down-to-earth and good-natured Arslan (who behaves like Alphonse in Edward's body from Fullmetal Alchemist). Fantastic backdrops and character designs similar to FMA: Brotherhood. Arakawa Hiromu created its manga version, which is very promising. With Narsus around, you can be sure that battle strategies are involved. Misses: The disappointing OP by Uverworld. Overpowered main team. Tsubasa Chronicle was like that too, only with 3 OP characters. Sakura played the wallflower for most of the episodes, anyway.

Death Parade & Speculation

Image
Before diving into the main topic, my compliments first and foremost to MADHOUSE Inc. for producing animes that I have no regrets coming across: Cardcaptor Sakura Chihayafuru Death Billiards Death Parade The Girl Who Leapt Through Time Monster Parasyte Rainbow: Nisha Rokubō no Shichinin Supernatural: The Animation Tokyo Godfathers Please spare a moment to look at this ravishing picture of a cube doll. Okay, jokes aside, I must say that this series has quickly become something I look forward to this season. If you have not watched Death Billiards before starting this series, you are highly encouraged to. So, how would I describe Death Parade? It's like a chill party with Jigoku Shoujo where the people who have passed on play games to decide their fate instead of facing the full wrath of the judge. The Offer of Life or Death   11 Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. 12 It is not up in heaven, ...

Psycho-Pass is a Literary Masterpiece

Kougami Shinya by PhantomSixMan on deviantART Kougami quoting the bible: "Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life." - John 12:24 - 25 Loaded with references to a variety of literary works, Psycho-Pass is sure to give your brains a workout. The issues raised in this series include: To what extent should we allow technology to manage our lives?  What is morality? How do we decide which moral values are important?  What do we consider a perfect government system?  What are the flaws in this "utopian" government system? How likely is this scenario to occur in our current generation?  How do we decide what is justice? From the author, Urobuchi Gen, comes a masterpiece akin to the ranks of Puella Mag...

My Neighbor Totoro

meatandsarcasm : Luke 18:16-18 New International Version 1984 (NIV1984) 16 But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 17 I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”

Chihayafuru

Image
It's a hidden gem of an anime this season about 2 guys (Arata & Taichi) and a girl (Chihaya) who share a passion of karuta (a memory card game of a 100 poems) since childhood. But after parting ways and moving on with life, Chihaya clings on to the passion of the game in the hope that the trio will play the game together again. So far, I've watched 6 episodes and I'm hungry for more. Episode 6 Review

Working'!!

Image
Watching season 2 of Working!!, which comes with a ' in between. And so far, I'm loving it to bits. All the characters work in a restaurant called Wagnaria. And each character has his/her quirk, so if character interactions are your thing and you don't care much for plot, this is a laid-back slice-of-life comedy for you. From left: Kyoko (the lazy glutton of a manager), Yachiyo (chief and Kyoko's willing slave), Soma (cunning chef who makes it his business to know everyone else's business), Sato (quiet and serious chef with an unrequited 'like' for Yachiyo) Yamada (likes to pick and choose family, a clumsy and spoilt brat), Soma (business as usual), Takanashi (loves small things, practically raises his family of 4 sisters), Popura (small girl who wants to grow tall), Inami (can't help but punch men who are within close range) These aren't all the main characters. These are.

Dreams & Ambitions

Bakuman has a place in my heart because it is such a source of inspiration and comfort regarding my dreams and ambitions. Since young, I can't remember the number of times I've changed my ambitions. I wanted to be everything from a police officer, photographer, author, actress, musician, singer to a superhero. And I don't see why I can't do all the things I love doing. So I shall continue. Bakuman taught me that. If you want it bad enough, there's nothing that can put you down.

Top row: Athrun, Kira, Shinn Bottom row: Cagalli, Lacus, Luna Watching an Athrun/Cagalli amv  and reminiscing the time when I: shipped Kira/Cagalli the moment I saw them, went into a denial phase after picking up hints of their true relationship, started shipping Athrun/Cagalli, miss Kira/Cagalli, yo-yo between the two ships, continued into GSD to find out AsuCaga developments with high hopes, had my feelings toyed with, got disappointed at the end, felt happy for Kira/Lacus, though a tad jealous, started shipping Shinn/Luna, felt better, shipped all my canon and non-canon pairings. Back to yo-yo. Darn you GS for the rollercoaster ride. I've been caught in the yo-yo ever since.

Nakao & Nobu - Lovely Complex

Image
<< Warning: Episode 21 spoilers. >> Well, not really, since Nakao & Nobu have been together from the beginning. Great to see some plot development for those two.

Lovely Complex

Image
Like the show's nickname "LoveCom", it's a love comedy anime about high school friends who can't get past the friendship barrier to become more than that. Well, the girl Risa does, but the guy Otani can't. After all, it's weird enough that Risa is so much taller than Otani. With the support of Risa's best friends and their bfs, who have had the road to coupledom much easier, they try to convince Otani that Risa's the one for him. But of course, in every love comedy, there will always be others who try to interfere. This face. 1 2 That face. 3 4 The you-just-got-pwned face. Maity in the house! YEAH! Funny how I only noticed this when Maity joined the party. Those faces. 5 6 Generated by Malionette's Icon Table Generator

Don't forget 3.Oct.11

Image
Yay! It's FMA Day! After the long and exhausting hours of alchemic research and preparation, brothers Ed & Al tried to transmute their mother, failed and lost a part of themselves to the gate. For Ed, what was more horrific was losing his brother Al, sacrificing an arm in exchange for affixing Al's soul to a metal armour suit and living to face the guilt of dragging his brother into this mess of a situation. After bouts of depression, tough love and encouragement of others, Ed & Al decide to pull themselves out of the rut, burn down their house and embark on a long journey in search of their hope of regaining their bodies - the philosopher's stone. 3 Oct '11 - the day Ed & Al burnt their house down and made a promise to carry on. I just love it that FMA is a touching story of brotherhood, sacrifice, loss, redemption, friendship, love, sin and war, a story of lives intertwining. It's great how the b...

Digimon

Ahh... the good old childhood days when I could give you so many reasons why Digimon is so much better than Pokemon. Now I'm just old and forgetful. http://fivecentimeterspersecond.tumblr.com/  @ http://digitalmonsterconfessions.tumblr.com/post/9929127769

Hanging Out

Went out with my friend today. She wanted to do some shopping, and in the end, we did - window shopping. It's kinda funny because we're polar opposites when it comes to shopping. She goes for the wants, I go for the needs. But at least we can both agree on one thing - we're very picky. So much so that we can take a long time to select the right thing and we end up not buying anything, which is good for our pockets. I'll take that as good training for resisting temptation. These are the questions I ask myself when selecting the right product: Is this the item you need? If you went shopping for ________, then why are you looking at _ *insert unrelated good*_ ? Is it within your budget? (Sidenote: Personally, I find that carrying very little cash with you really helps to cut down on spending. Don't bring your credit cards either. You can't spend much if you don't have enough money with you. P.S. It's also a good trollin' excuse when so...
