Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fonder... Or Not

Image
Gone are the days when couples are separated for long periods of time and write snail mail to stay in touch. Nowadays, with the smartphone and the demand for instant gratification, many are put off by long-distance relationships as the odds of their partners straying are not in their favour. After all, if both parties spend so little time together, can it really be considered a relationship? It even sounds tragic, if you ask me. Anyway, congratulations to the above couple who has managed to make an LDR work! :)

Lost Child

Image
This is a reminder to all parents of young children to be alert when supervising your child at the playground. Credit:  https://www.timeout.com/singapore/kids/kidzplay-skygarden Today, I was at a rooftop water playground of Nex shopping mall having lunch when I noticed a 5-7-year-old boy repeatedly calling out for his mother at the east wing of the playground. He was growing more panicky with each call. I looked around the playground and saw that all the other children had some form of adult supervision except him. When he started wandering out of the playground and even further east, I became worried and approached him to ask if he was looking for his mother and whether he remembered what she was wearing. He nodded cautiously and mumbled a description. I told him that I would help him look for her. I looked around and noticed a woman sitting alone at the west end of the rooftop, behind the playground, her eyes glued to her phone. I pointed her out to the boy and asked him if it wa...

Ten Indisputable Signs That You’re a Writer

Ten Indisputable Signs That You’re a Writer I agree with most of the signs. As much as I love writing, I have come to the stage in life when I know there's a difference between fantasy and reality. There will be up sides and down sides in every career. Even the most glamorous job will have its rough patches. I might or might not become a full-fledged writer in the future, but even if I do become one someday, I may eventually discover the difficulties a writer faces with all the finances, editing, promoting, publishing, etc. and may even abandon my dreams because of the challenges. For now, I will make the best out of what I have now. Should I be deemed incapable and be shown the door, I shall set out without regrets and explore a new future that awaits.

Sensitive Issues

For once in a very long time, I thought I might as well make a serious post regarding a couple of issues: Memory loss With age comes this problem. It takes a toll on working adults like me and it is torturous to remember a gazillion usernames and passwords, the names of all the people I work with, important knowledge and facts, etc. On the bright side, people like me tend to be happier and more forgiving because we forget the anger and hurts more easily. As the saying goes, "ignorance is bliss". To the people who harbour revenge and hurts for a long time, let me remind you that it is unhealthy for your mind, especially if you are up against forgetful people, because the only one who suffers from your unforgiveness is you, not the happy person who doesn't even remember what he or she did to anger you. Bottle all that rage up over some time and you're bound to "snap", perhaps even going to extent of breaking the law. Learn to forgive and let go. Move...

That Teenage Boy Band Phase

Every girl goes through this phase at least once in a lifetime. The names of boy bands you like tell a lot about the generation you come from. Someday, future generations of girls will grow up with a new generation of boy bands, not knowing about the bands from your good old days. All these become part of your memory and will become something to laugh about in old age. Here is the time for the ladies from my generation to remember the band that:

Outer Space Stuff

Image
meatandsarcasm : rubywhiterabbit : My little brother got into outer space and stuff so my step-mom bought him a place mat with all the planets on it. When I first saw it, I was upset, because it was newer and so Pluto wasn’t labeled. I was about to say something when I noticed something…  Pluto is there.  The artist remembered Pluto.  Guys…  The artist drew Pluto crying.

14 Ways to Save Money on Groceries

Image
meatandsarcasm : 14 Ways to Save Money on Groceries 1.  Line the bottom of your refrigerator’s crisper drawer with paper towels. They’ll absorb the excess moisture that causes vegetables to rot.  2.  To keep herbs tasting fresh for up to a month, store whole bunches, washed and sealed in plastic bags, in the freezer. When you need them, they’ll be easier to chop, and they’ll defrost the minute they hit a hot pan.  3.  A bay leaf slipped into a container of flour, pasta, or rice will help repel bugs. 4.  Stop cheese from drying out by spreading butter or margarine on the cut sides to seal in moisture. This is most effective with hard cheeses sealed in wax.  5.  When radishes, celery, or carrots have lost their crunch, simply pop them in a bowl of iced water along with a slice of raw potato and watch the limp vegetables freshen up right before your eyes. 6.  Avoid separating bananas until you plan to eat them – they spoil less quickly i...

Growing a friendship

meatandsarcasm : pyrates : having a friendship with me is like nurturing a tiny baby seed  you have to be patient and give it lots of water and not get upset if it doesn’t grow right away because it takes a while…..  and then it sprouts and you can tell hey because i talk a little more and maybe start conversations  and then you water it more  and then suddenly it blooms and you realize it’s A WEED YOU DON’T WANT THIS IN YOUR GARDEN BUT IT’S TOO LATE IT NEVER STOPS IT NEVER SHUTS UP Sounds just like me.

A 7th grade lit journal quote

Image
benkling : Here’s a quote from my 7th grade lit journal. Hosea 9:7 The days of punishment are coming, the days of reckoning are at hand. Let Israel know this. Because your sins are so many and your hostility so great, the prophet is considered a fool, the inspired person a maniac.

Genesis 9:18-27 New International Version 1984 (NIV1984) The Sons of Noah 18 The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham and Japheth. (Ham was the father of Canaan.) 19 These were the three sons of Noah, and from them came the people who were scattered over the earth. 20 Noah, a man of the soil, proceeded[ a ] to plant a vineyard. 21 When he drank some of its wine, he became drunk and lay uncovered inside his tent. 22 Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father’s nakedness and told his two brothers outside. 23 But Shem and Japheth took a garment and laid it across their shoulders; then they walked in backward and covered their father’s nakedness. Their faces were turned the ot...

Say No to Stereotypes

Image
seriesofnonsequiturs: meatandsarcasm : seriesofnonsequiturs : “The way it works…is that Asian-Americans are evaluated not as individuals , but against the thousands of other ultra-achieving Asians who are stereotyped as boring academic robots .”   “ There are people who insist that the ‘Model Minority Myth’ is at least a ‘positive’ stereotype. Better to be racially typecast as a smart, overachieving Ivy League-bound nerd than someone who is lazy or criminally violent, right?  WRONG. All stereotypes are negative . The Asian ‘Model Minority Myth’ creates a faceless monolith that trivializes individual achievement . It also erases one’s humanity. And we know what happens when an entire race of people is devalued to nothing more than an unfair and inaccurate stereotype. The results are NOT good.” 2 Kings 19:5-7 New International Version 1984 (NIV1984) 5 When King Hezekiah’s officials came to Isaiah, 6 Isaiah said to them, “Tell your master, ‘This is what the LORD says: D...
