Baptism Service

Image
Photo by Josue Michel on Unsplash I am often encouraged by the youths at my church and fellow churches whenever each one takes a step of faith to proclaim their trust in the Almighty God. The heavens rejoice and the saints and angels cheer for every one of them. Jesus is ever patient and kind, always standing at our doors knocking, beckoning us to allow Him to save us from sin and eternal darkness, and to transform our lives anew. I thank God that no matter the circumstances in these young lives, I am immensely grateful that at some point in their lives, many have chosen God over the world. It has been an honour to witness them mature in their faith. May God continue to nurture and grow their mustard seeds of faith into courageous and steadfast forests for Christ. May these youths experience the fullness of God's mercy and grace, and blaze the trail for the next generations to come. Philippians 1:9-11 (WEB) This I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and...

Organising Your Life

Image
This is a fantastic introductory video to organising your life. I have picked up some of these tips over the years through trial and error, which I wished had been taught to me beyond just the partially helpful "write it down in your notebook" reminders. While I don't use most of these apps, I would highly recommend using a digital calendar, task (to-do) list, and a digital storage drive for a start. How I use my calendar and task list Read e-mails once a day and use the 1-touch rule . You have to make a decision the moment you open it: reply to it, archive (for information), do the task or add it to your task list (for things that take 5 min or less to complete), schedule an event in a calendar (for things that take longer than 5 min to do) Managing events: I colour code my events (' red ' for important work, fun colours for recreational activities) and set default 1-day, 3h and 15 min prior push notifications to remind me of them. Digital Storage Drive On top of...

The Formula: Unlocking the Secrets to Raising Highly Successful Children

Image
The Formula: A Book on Raising Successful Children The Formula is a book by Ron Ferguson, a faculty member at Harvard Kennedy School, and journalist Tatsha Robertson. The book aims to answer the question of whether there is a recipe for youthful success. After interviewing families of successful young adults, Ferguson and Robertson found that good parenting is the common origin of these individual successes. The Story Behind the Book Tatsha Robertson started interviewing successful people in 2005 to understand how they got that way. She found that parenting might have something to do with it. Meanwhile, Ron Ferguson was working on a project called the "How I Was Parented" Project, in which Harvard students interviewed fellow students to discuss how parenting had gotten them where they were. The two connected, and their discussion eventually led to the research and writing of The Formula. The Eight Parental Roles 🧩 Early Learning Partner: engaging with the...

Leadership & Decision-Making

“To put the world in order, we must first put the nation in order; to put the nation in order, we must put the family in order; to put the family in order, we must cultivate our personal life; and to cultivate our personal life, we must first set our hearts right.” - Confucius  当局者迷,旁观者清 The involved parties tend to be caught up in the details and emotions to make good decisions. Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fonder... Or Not

Image
Gone are the days when couples are separated for long periods of time and write snail mail to stay in touch. Nowadays, with the smartphone and the demand for instant gratification, many are put off by long-distance relationships as the odds of their partners straying are not in their favour. After all, if both parties spend so little time together, can it really be considered a relationship? It even sounds tragic, if you ask me. Anyway, congratulations to the above couple who has managed to make an LDR work! :)

People Are Complex

Image
Source:  Sometimes I Hate My Husband, But That Doesn't Mean Our Marriage Is Doomed (msn.com) An interesting exploration of the complexities of relationships. Since no two persons are completely alike, there are bound to be habits and quirks of the other that can charm and/or irk us. You can love some parts of a person, hate some parts of the same person, and that's perfectly alright.

To a Brave New Year

Ephesians 4:17-32 (ESV) The New Life Now this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds. They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart. They have become callous and have given themselves up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of impurity. But that is not the way you learned Christ!— assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.  Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another. Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your...
