The Legend of Korra Book 2 ~Spirit~ Finale

I can't believe Book 2 is over. As much as I disliked how Book 1 turned out, I am surprised to say that the finale of Book 2 was emotional and breathtaking. Despite not liking how the main characters developed, the links to the past were exceptionally well done and every little cameo made it better. Unfortunately, I still don't like any of the main characters, which is a real pity, because if it had been the Gaang, the overall effect would have been so much more epic. In fact, in two short episodes, Wan impacted me so much more than Korra ever did. Crazy, but true. I'm looking forward to see how Book 3 turns out. With hope, it would be as good, if not better than Book 3 ~Fire~.

Post-Avatar Feelings

korralations  via  benditlikekorra : I’ve never felt like I belong anywhere. I’m weird that way, but I feel it’s something that a lot of tumblr can relate too. I have friends. But every once in a while, they’ll be laughing about something I didn’t catch, and I’ll look at them and feel like I’m not quite what they are together, like I’m not part of that. As if I’m a stranger looking in. Sometimes I’ll step back and look at my family, and feel like an outcast. But there’s something about this song, about Avatar, that I just can’t articulate to people. It’s ineffable in a way, and I wish I could say it. The way this simple song brings 62 episodes rushing back, how you wish you could unwatch it just to watch it again, how you remember how much your heart ached when it ended. There’s no other way to describe it but an ache, a twisting in the pit of your stomach because it was over. Over. You heard those closing credits, the song The End of Avatar, and it simply ached. But jus...

benditlikekorra : korrawr : skoochythevagabond : I want to share something that’s kinda bothering me about Legend of Korra.  It’s not a bad thing really, and it’s not an example of bad writing or bad storytelling (actually it’s an example of very good storytelling). It’s just something that’s been bothering me and I don’t think people have really looked at it enough.

Amon's Story

Speculation of Amon's identity (apologies if my theories seem crazy): Lee, the little boy on the farm that Zuko stayed with in ATLA episode, "Zuko Alone". So, that would make Amon about 70+ years old, which is somewhat plausible if he was as bamf as Iroh was. Bumi, Aang's son. When Tenzin said that spirit-bending was impossible, he sounded like he knew someone who could spirit-bend but kept as a secret from Korra. Perhaps Aang taught his sons how to spirit-bend theoretically but none of them could master it till now. But this also means that Amon's story was a lie. Ozai, assuming he found a way to spirit-bend after learning from experiencing it firsthand. He would also have to find a way to live forever. Perhaps he found the elixir of life/philosopher's stone/etc. etc. Jet - harboured intense hatred for firebenders. a new character. Very likely. someone who had his face stolen by Koh, the face-stealer. LOL.

Azula Character Analysis

Image
roxanneritchi: notzuko: to this day, I think Azula is probably... : roxanneritchi : notzuko : to this day, I think Azula is probably one of the most interesting villains. Ever . One of the really fabulous things about ATLA that I think is sometimes overlooked is not just this character arc, Azula’s character arc, which  is often discussed, but rather the subtle and subtly evolving character arcs afforded each of the dangerous ladies, from Mai’s silent struggles with the repressive restrictions put upon her by her parents and how slowly as the series progresses she begins to break through to Ty Lee’s lack of a personal identity and almost instinctive molding of herself to meet the expectations of others—how they see her and what they think of her—to, of course, this: Azula.  Azula is introduced as the favored child to unwanted Zuko, the prodigy to whom firebending comes naturally where Zuko struggles and struggles with it, the natural successor to Ozai an...

It's Apr 14, Avatards!

Image
YES YES YES! Mark your calendars, Avatards! Korra will be out on Apr 14! *Warning: New clip spoilers* I can so imagine Korra and Bolin as drinking buddies! Mako will be all like "Bolin, stop encouraging her! That behaviour is unbecoming of an Avatar. I'm sure Avatar Aang was nothing like that-" then Korra burps in his face. Acts 20:22-24 New King James Version (NKJV) 22 And see, now I go bound in the spirit to Jerusalem, not knowing the things that will happen to me there, 23 except that the Holy Spirit testifies in every city, saying that chains and tribulations await me. 24 But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself,[ a ] so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.

ATLA Party Games

You know that post a while back dealing with the Avatar The Last Airbender party and "Pin the Scar on the Zuko?" : inhellsdespair : badass-bolts-n-arrows : Ideas for ATLA related party games - Pin the arrow on Aang! Pin the hair danglies on Korra! (double the fun!) Appa pinata anyone? Capture the Avatar - it’s like capture the flag, but instead you have two teams attempting to capture the Avatar. Extra points if you get REALLY in character and you recreate the first season with the Zhao team going, “I WANT THE AVATAR!” and Zuko team going, “HONNNOORRR!” Bending Paint Ball, Fire Benders get red paint, Earth Benders get brown, Water benders get blue and Air Nomads get orange or yellow. Last team standing wins. Fire Lord of the Hill - Like king of the hill, but with the fire lord. Of course, Haiku battles. YES PERFECT Party at my place, guys. Luke 15:23-25 New International Version 1984 (NIV1984) 23 Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and cel...

The Case of Sexism in ATLA

Image
via Tumblr (fireladyswag): atla-confession-box : “I recognize ATLA isn’t nearly as bad as some other shows. But I can’t help but feel it’s a little sexist.” My response: Definition of sexist: discriminatory on the basis of sex (usually said of men's attitude toward women). wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn How is the entire show sexist? It presents various characters that break both male and female gender stereotypes: strong female characters e.g. Toph (who, along with Teo, simultaneously breaks the disability barrier), Katara (changed grandPakku's original view that females should not train in offensive bending), Suki (changed Sokka's originally sexist perception that females should behave like damsels in distress), Hama strong old  elderly folk  (Iroh, Bumi, Pakku, Hama, etc.) Need I go on?

Fall in line, people!

Join the queue, people! Cos The Penguins of Madagascar are making waves large enough to cause a stir in the zoo enclosures. If you've watched any of the Madagascar movies, you'd know who the real stars of the show are. Catch the penguins with a mission in action - Skipper, Kowalski, Rico & Private. Just smile and wave, boys. Just smile and wave. The Last Airbender: The Legend of Korra No thanks to the person who decided to claim the Avatar trademark/copyright/naming right for himself, ATLA had to rename its sequel. Nickelodeon had originally planned for 12 episodes of “Korra” but recently decided to order 14 more episodes. The sequel is set to be released in mid-2012. “Korra” takes place in a similar setting as its predecessor, but with a more steampunk feel to it, possibly like the Northern Air Temple, due to the 70 years of technological advancement that have passed. In this world, some inhabitants are “bender...

Avatarded Again

20 Years by * rufftoon on deviant ART Gosh, rufftoon makes yet another masterpiece. Go clickey to see more awesomeness. Immediately, I was reminded of wholesome Avatar goodness and went to check on the DA Avatar fandom and what do I see? Tons of hilarious fanart and crack pairings. Bwahahaha! You guys just made my day! The cabbage merchant, cabbage pick-up lines, crazy foaming guy, foam-bending... Genius. Some words for Avatards (ages 16+) out there: Avatar Abridged by GanXingba. Now when I think back on the failure that is TLA the movie, I wonder what it could have been had all the right decisions been made. Katara: "Now that I know he's out there... Now that I know we can find him... I feel like I have no choice." Aang: "Katara, you do have a choice; forgiveness." Zuko: "That's the same as doing nothing." Aang: "No, it's not. It's easy to do nothing, but it's hard to forgive." Looking ahead, we still have Leg...

Avatar The Last Airbender

Image
If you don't know this one, you've probably missed out on one of the best masterpieces in animation history. It is an honour to introduce you to "Avatar: The Last Airbender", spanning three seasons (or "books"), and currently in its sequel, "The Legend of Korra". The story takes place in a divided world where people could control specific elements of earth, fire, water and air. However, the fire nation started a war against the other nations in a conquest to take over the world. The people's last hope was the Avatar, the only person who could control all four elements. In each generation, the Avatar is born as a descendent of the next element in the cycle after the previous Avatar passes away as follows. Fire -> Air -> Water -> Earth -> Fire After Avatar Roku (Fire Nation)'s passing, the next Avatar was presumably an airbender. However, during the Fire Nation war, the Fire Nation exterminated all the Air Na...
