W.I.T.C.H. vs Winx

I think the winner is pretty obvious. Need a hint? It is the one with an older history, clever lines and spunkier characters.

Please don't say Winx Club.

There was a point in time when I used to like Winx (only because of Tecna, Brandon & Musa), but even then, I feared that it would go the way of becoming a matchmaking sorority filled with girly girls. And eventually, it did. It didn't help that I disapproved of most of the pairings. That made me sick and tired of it. Having more than one season was one too many.

Below is a brief breakdown of each series:

Winx Club
W.I.T.C.H
Opening intros/Closing creditsThe video clips were too girly and glittery for my taste, but some of the music were sweet and memorable. Eye-candy sweetness at best, so-sweet-it's-sour pineapples at worst. There are 2 versions – the US and the EU versions. I like both, but US > EU, because Marion Raven sang it and it has better lyrics. Great video clips.
Clothes & styleOutrageously colourful/glittery midriff-exposing outfits. They may look nice to Barbie-lovers, but they do not look like powerful warriors to me. The eye-candy clothes that would make many females jealous.Normal and decent clothes. Their transformation outfits are weird and uniform, but grew on me after a while.
PlotGood guys turned bad only because they were under a spell/hypnotised.There are double agents in the story, which is more believable and makes things more interesting.
Characters
  • Girly and boy-crazy fashionistas with butt-reaching long hair. Pass.
  • The specialists tone down the glittery stuff and brings balance to the show.
  • The villains are mild nuisances, especially the Trix.
  • Thankfully, not everyone in the team is boy-crazy and “conveniently” paired up with another person.
  • Caleb (voiced by Greg Cipes a.k.a. Kevin Levin & Beast Boy) is similar to what you would expect of Kevin.
  • The villains are average, but may prove to be a threat in time.
Setting
Purely magic meets modernTraditional Chinese legends (courtesy of Hay Lin & her grandma) meets magic meets modern
Action sequences
Overly dramatic with time-wasting transformations and cut-in spell scenes.Despite the usual transformation sequences, the fight scenes involve more strategic-thinking and elemental combinations.
