Making a stand - Thor runs for election
Polling Day is just round the corner and I'm really excited to vote for the first time and be a part of history in the making. Now, the big question for my district is: Which of Thor's weapons is more powerful? His hammer or his lightning powers?
Let me digress...
Ever since The Avengers got a reboot with its Earth's Mightiest Heroes animated series, I've been reacquainted with its team members and have a newfound liking towards Thor (Old English and all), besides my favourites Clint and the Hulk. Clint, Tigra, Falcon, Ant-man & Wasp were my favourites in the United We Stand series (West Coast Avengers). The new series has revived The Avengers once again, but has also resulted in a frustratingly annoying version of Ant-man and Wasp.
So, do I like this new but original team? Well, yes and no. Do I prefer the old team? Well, not really. While I do like the nostalgia of seeing the West Coast team, I actually like the current team, despite some personality flaws. Comparing both teams, I'd say that the West Coast team had been through tougher times and more drama than the present team. And though many trash the West Coast team, I still salute them for their hard work.
Now, the old has gone and the new has come. It's time to reassess the team again and see if they are as capable of what they promise.
Moving back on track, likewise, it is essential that we vote with our heads. At the moment, pressing issues have been raised at the various rallies that concern our future. Namely:
- Rising cost of living - transport, medical fees, housing prices, etc.
- True democracy
- Current policies and suggested policies
- Government spending - high ministers' salaries
A/N: Although some may say that high ministerial salaries are not a concern, it is, in my opinion, because they concern taxpayers' money. It is inevitable that people are concerned about monetary affairs, because materialism and survival instinct are a natural part of human mentality.
Voting is a decision you have to make on your own. Listen to the rallies and vote for the one that addresses your concerns and has plans to deal with them. At the same time, try to discern the subtle messages that are embedded in any political speech. You need to be sure that the one you vote for is one that can be trusted.
I'm just speaking from the mindset of an ordinary young adult, so you don't have to take my word for it. After all, everyone's entitled to their opinion.
