Watchmen
Definitely not for the faint-hearted. It's gory and disturbing, but the story is well-told. After watching this shocking M-18 film supposedly based on the comics, I felt rather disgusted yet disturbed by deep thoughts.
Disgusted, why? From all the bloody violence, gore, vulgarities and sexual references. Never in my life have I heard so many F-words and seen so much blood in a movie. There were brutal killings from the beginning till the end.
Despite all that, this movie has invoked many deep thoughts and big questions in my mind. Is sacrifice really needed for the greater good? Is true heroism dead? I realised that many of the themes revolving Watchmen are similar to the anime series, Gundam 00.
For example, Celestial Being tried to make itself an enemy of the world in order to eradicate war and bring peace and cooperation among the different nations. Of course, it did work to some extent, but due to human greed, nations plotted to take advantage of them and capture their gundam technology to use for war. Just like the Watchmen, Celestial Being sacrificed many innocent lives.
So the question is, does killing solve anything? Obviously, everyone makes mistakes, but does that give us the right to exact justice by killing them? If we were to kill anyone who does evil, it not only makes us just as evil as them, but we would have to destroy the whole world. And that was what the villain in the movie tried to do. Now wouldn't that be trying to play God? Seriously, we should do what we can to stop war, not fuel it. Nonetheless, we don't have the right to decide who lives or dies. Just leave it to God and the apocalypse or armageddon to end the world.
Considering that I've not read the source material, I would assume that the original is probably much better.
